Art as life

-- Sophie Hong

Sophie Hong created a kind of non-rigid Chinese couture that fits the modern life-style and go beyond with comfortable and refined design elements, which rise to a peerless quality. Her clothes let you know they come from China. While the clothing looks good on everyone, westerners and Asians alike.  As Sophie says, “it suits everyone.”

In the autumn of 2012, an ingenious show unfolded at Paris’ Place Colette, at the Palais Royal. The audience was seated outdoors at Café Le Nemours, sipping coffee while watching the show. In the square, a cello was playing a musical score by Bach, handsome young men and pretty ladies in Taiwan wooden clogs walked out from a porch in twos and threes, their garments floating in the wind, in a pace of random stops and goes. Some held umbrellas, some were drinking, others talked on the phone, while others chatted or ... were simply kissing.  Had there not been a crowd of onlookers, this would have been a most ordinary, yet extraordinary, Parisian street scene.  The Sophie Hong clothing designs were merged into this scene, playing an indisputable first role, which can be viewed as a square and a podium. This is art and daily life; a reflection of Sophie Hong’s philosophy behind her designs.
